No-one should go through scoliosis alone. With your help we can support people with scoliosis and their families
Just been diagnosed?
If your child is diagnosed with scoliosis then it can be a very worrying time. Try not to panic, having scoliosis does not mean that your child won't be able to lead a full and active life. It also does not necessarily mean that they will need an operation.
If very young children are treated early their spines can be encouraged to grow straight naturally. Many children just need to have their spine checked every 6 months to a year to see if the curve is getting bigger.
The most important thing is to make sure that your child's doctor arranges a referral to see a scoliosis specialist. If the doctor is not sure who the nearest scoliosis specialists are or you want to check you can call SAUK who will be able to give you this information.
Sometimes congenital scoliosis (a type of scoliosis you are born with) is picked up by a scan during pregnancy. If this is the case you will still be referred to a scoliosis specialist who will discuss the ultrasound scans with an obstetrician. Then when the baby is born they will be referred to a specialist.
