How are you coping in the cold?

Aches and pains in winter
13 December 2011

As the winter months set in the cold weather can have a big impact; how are you coping with your pain in the cold this year?

Many members of SAUK have expressed how in the cold weather they stiffen up and tend to feel their back ache more than usual.  Some have talked of rod chill where the colder weather causes the instrumentation in their back to tingle, and others experience muscle spasms, feel extra tense or find it harder to get around.

For those who are jetting off somewhere sunny for the festive break, you may have the best solution!  However here are some tips for those who have to brave the great British winter:

  • Soak away those muscle aches with a hot bath
  • Get your hands on some thermal underwear or undergarments for extra protection against the chill
  • Try using a therma heat wrap or hot water bottle to warm up your lower back
  • Start hinting for someone to treat you to a spa session with a steam and sauna blitz or hot stone massage for Christmas!
  • Bring your temperature up and relax the muscles with a spot of stretching, pilates, or exercise
  • If night time is when you feel it most, try out an electric blanket or electric mattress pad so you can pre-heat your bed
