There is a membership subscription, and the association is run
entirely on contributions and fund-raising
efforts by the members, and on donations from outside sources.
SAUK now has approximately 3000 members. There are three types of
membership.
 | Full membership is for adults with scoliosis and parents of children
with scoliosis. Full members receive the newsletter and can be put in touch
with other members who are either local to them, or who share common problems.
New members can find it useful to talk to someone who has recently had the
course of treatment they are about to embark upon themselves. |
 | Reserve membership is for those members who do not wish to be on the
regional list and do not want to be
contacted by other members. |
 | Associate membership is offered to all who are interested in scoliosis
and are willing to help the promotion of SAUK and its work. Associate members
include many doctors, nurses, health workers, physiotherapists, teachers, and
organisations
such as the Disabled Living Foundation, Contact-a-Family,
Neurofibromatosis Association, ASBAH
(spina bifida), the Marfan Association
UK, the British Scoliosis
Society, and our sister organisations in other
countries. |
We keep a register of members' names, addresses and telephone numbers. Each
post code area has a regional secretary who organizes meetings (in conjunction
with head office) and local fund raising events. The regional secretary is also
a first point of contact for members.
