Affiliation with BSRF
In November, 2006, SAUK became officially affiliated with the British Scoliosis Research Foundation (BSRF). The BSRF is the only UK charity that exists solely to promote research into scoliosis. Since the affiliation, both charities feature heavily in each others work.
The affiliation of the two charities centres round a joint fundraising venture, the Scoliosis Campaign Fund (SCF). In November, 2007, the SCF was set up to unite the two organisations fundraising strategies. The SCF committee (Laura Counsell, Peter Virley, Stephanie Clark, James Zorab, Stephen Bullock, and Ian Harrison) devised various new fundraising ideas, including the London 10K run, skydiving, and the three peaks challenge. All funds raised from the activities are equally split between the organisations, so all money raised goes to helping those affected by scoliosis. Both organisations continue to do their own individual fundraising but the emphasis is now on SCF. For more information or to help fundraise for us, find out more about fundraising for SAUK or SCF, or contact us.
The BSRF is setting up the first ever National Scoliosis Register in the UK. The purpose of the register will be to facilitate the study of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis with a view to establishing the cause or causes of the condition, and to provide better understanding of scoliosis and its management. It is intended that the register will house information for at least 2000 and up to 10,000 individuals with idiopathic scoliosis and other forms of scoliosis affecting adolescents and young adults. For more up to date information visit the BSRF website.
